This post on destiny is by MoJo Medium, aka Susan Morrow-Johnson our guest in episode 299, video and audio.
You have a Destiny, a meant-to-be THING that you are supposed to do in your life.
But here’s the Big Secret about your Destiny that nobody’s ever told you:
You get to choose it.
It’s not some Quixotic Quest or Cosmic Crusade, nor is it an undiscoverable mystery—you get to choose from the gifts you were born with to create your own recipe for “Destiny Stew” from these seven Elements:
- Your Divine Connection
- Your Divine Value
- Your Beginning
- Your Dreams
- Your Talents
- Your Expression
- Your Manifestation
I won’t have the space to cover all the elements of your Destiny, so I’ve chosen the three that will help you the most right now in your journey of Choosing Your Destiny.
Your Divine Connection is an important first step. Without being tied in and vibing with that Big Universal Vibration, the rest of the elements won’t be much use to you.
And the best way for you to connect and commune with “the Divine,” meaning your Spirit Guides and the energy of All That Is, is meditation. After working with thousands of clients over the past 25 years, I can almost hear you protesting, “But I can’t meditate!”
Because that’s what 95% of my clients have told me. But any hypnotherapist will tell you that about 95% of the population is suggestible, meaning they can be hypnotized. And hypnosis is very similar to meditation. You just have to know how.
It’s totally unfair for someone to tell you, “Oh, you just close your eyes and breathe. Concentrate on your breathing and clear your mind.”
Yeah, right. I’ve got ADHD, bucko. I don’t think so.
And that’s exactly why I came up with a super-easy way to meditate, because I couldn’t do it either! The main thing is to have something to concentrate on (besides your breathing). Choose a simple object to visualize, like a red ball or a black shoe or your pet. If you are not a good visualizer (perfectly fine), use a word or number to repeat to yourself. You’ve heard of mantras, right? Same thing.
Close your eyes, relax, get comfy. Take three deep breaths, call in your spirit guides (or whomever you choose), and focus on that image, word, or number. Hold that in your mind, and if your mind wanders, bring it back to that image. Practice this for as long as you can the first time. Three minutes, five minutes, whatever feels right to you. There’s no pressure. Then increase the amount of time each day until you are up to 15-20 minutes every day.
There’s lots more help to be found for this, including YouTube videos and coaching with me. And a regular meditation practice will leave you feeling calmer and clearer, with better concentration.
Next, let’s talk about your Divine Value.
Believe it or shove it, at the root of all the lack, illness, and injury in your life is:
Worthiness
Strangely enough, this is also at the root of all the abundance and joy in your life.
It’s not about whether you are worthy or not–because you totally are–but whether you feel worthy or not. A vital distinction.
You know that thing you have that we call your soul? Well, that soul is a chunk of the Divine, and it resides within you, housed in a physical body, so you can be a spiritual being having a human experience.
(I like to call my soul Chunky Divine, which also happens to be my stripper name.)
And that soul, being Divine, is in its very essence worthy. It has value. It is invaluable and worthy of love, joy, and abundance.
And that soul is you. Yeah, you are totally worthy of being-doing-having what you want-love-enjoy.
So why don’t you be-do-have…? Here’s a little exercise to help you figure that on out:
1. Write down 3 to 5 things in your life that are good or going well or that you enjoy.
2. Now write down 3 to 5 things in your life that are crummy or just missing.
3. Look at the two lists with this in mind:
What exists in your life that you like – you have a sense of worthiness about those. Conversely, what is crummy or missing – you do not feel worthy of those.
4. Extra Credit:
“The Worthies” – Every night just as you are going to sleep, say, “I am worthy” at least three times. Feel free to add what you are worthy of being-doing-having. Maybe pick something from that list of crummy things you made. This simple exercise will cause positive shifts in your life.
And finally, let’s talk about Your Talents. And yes, you do have them. Don’t argue with me, just read on.
You have gifts and talents that are intended to be used for two things:
- To have fun and
- To help others
Think of something you know you are good at, one of your natural gifts, like singing, being a good listener, or athletic ability.
Doesn’t it feel good to flex that gift, even if you are just singing in the shower?
You know why it feels good? So you’ll do it. See how that is a “meant-to-be” kind of thing?
Awareness of your talents can be a bit tricky sometimes, because if something is easy for you, you may have the crazy idea that it’s easy for everyone. (That’s what I used to think.)
But it’s not. Your talents are unique to you, and they present in the unique way that only you can express them. Sure, lots of people can sing, but nobody sings exactly like you do.
We all came into this life with at least a couple of strong aptitudes, most of us with more than that, that are meant to be shared with the world.
“Every talent fulfilled and used in service to others blesses both the server and the served.” ~~MoJo Medium
Yeah, I came up with that quote all by my lonesome. Well, with divine guidance, of course! I even had it put on a travel mug.
And … if we all used our talents, there would be perfect balance.
Ooh! That one kind of rhymes! I’ll put that on a mug too.
At any rate, how do you know what your gifts are, if they are not obvious to you?
I have a whole exercise for this purpose, which we do in 1:1 coaching and in my “Choose Your Destiny” Workshop, but here are a couple of tips:
MoJo Pro-Tip #1: There are two kinds of talents, the ones that are meant to be shared and the ones that are just for you. You can tell the difference by how much you enjoy using a talent. If it’s not that much fun to darn socks or play cards, even though you are good at it, then that talent is just for you.
MoJo Pro-Tip #2: The other thing you need to know is that you can use your talents for moola or not. Personally, I find that I love getting paid to use my talents, so…
MoJo Pro-Tip #3: Remember that “service” does not equal “servitude.” Like they tell you on the airplane, put the oxygen mask on yourself first, before helping someone else. Because if you are unconscious, you are no use to anyone! “Service” means support, help, creating, teaching, entertaining…you get it. And you have to remember to serve yourself too.
Choose Your Destiny & Love Your Life
Here’s my template for you to create that “Destiny Stew” recipe mentioned at the beginning:
- Figure out all of the talents you have.
- Choose your favorite/s.
- Decide how you want to use them.
- Put them to work in service to others (for moola or not).
- Enjoy!
Ta-daa! That’s how you align with your purpose—and love your life.
* Pssst! Here’s another secret: Your Destiny may actually be in several parts. If you get tired or bored of your original Destiny Stew, you can make a new recipe and do it all again.
