This Week’s Health Tip
We share our opinions on PTSD. Peter spoke of his experiences of military service during the Rhodesian terrorist war and in the farm invasions in Zimbabwe. He felt that he had survived many traumatic periods in his life without them having any serious effects on his life. He asked the question of why some people are badly affected by trauma and others are not. Kathleen felt that PTSD has always been a serious condition and that until recently, there had been a stigma attached to talking about it or acknowledging that one may be suffering its effects.
Peter felt that modern society, “helicopter” parenting and a sense of entitlement have all contributed to a lack of resilience and an increase in PTSD.
