Guest Appearance On The Business Infrastructure Podcast

Our guest appearance on The Business Infrastructure Podcast was published on 23 October. It was quite the experience. Being on the other side of the microphone as podcast guests for a change.

Alicia Butler-Pierre producer of the show was our guest on The Yakking Show in episode 113 back in May 2021.

In the current season of her podcast, Alicia is interviewing guests from around the world to provide her audience with first-hand information on the advantages and disadvantages of each country for entrepreneurs. She asked us about resources available in Canada for new businesses.

This was a first guest appearance for Kathleen, Peter has done a few. We will both be doing more in the future. It’s a great way to learn how other podcasters, prepare, present, publish and promote their shows. Alicia does audio only, some do video only as a YouTube channel, using other platforms or self-hosting video.

Some like us, do both audio and video. We believe using both media is good for us with our wide range of guests. Some episodes are more popular in video format, others in audio.

Episode length varies considerably. Peter has been on episodes as short as 20 minutes and as long as 2 hours and 10 minutes. Other podcasters publish daily short episodes of a few minutes duration.

Guest Appearance As A Promotion Tactic

A guest appearance on a podcast with a good following can certainly help get exposure for you and your podcast. You need to have clear objectives for your appearance

Is it to:

  • enhance your status as an expert in your field
  • shine a spotlight on your own podcast
  • expose you and your podcast to a new audience
  • to sell subscriptions, products or services
  • to help a new podcaster gain traction and experience

One indirect advantage not mentioned above is the learning experience of being on the other side of the microphone or camera. You will get the user’s experience of many of the tools you use for your own podcast.

  • scheduling apps
  • email sequence, content, follow up
  • video and audio equipment
  • editing and transcribing
  • promotion and social media sharing.

Conclusion

There are many advantages to appearing on podcasts.

There are some potential disadvantages too. Being associated with the “wrong” type of podcast could damage your brand. Setting clear objectives and being selective about the invitations you accept will go a long way to making any guest appearance a rewarding experience.
